What Fuels Abuse? An Intimate Conversation on Overcoming Domestic Abuse

Over the course of my life I’d only heard about my grandmother’s abusive relationship passed over in conversations. There was never a direct conversation that addressed why and how it happened, which made me even more curious about what fuels abuse.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, so to shed light on its severity I decided to make this personal. I chose to sit down with my very own grandmother and discuss how she overcame abuse even with 3 children and no financial back up plan. It is a sensitive topic and many women are caught in relationships where they feel there is no escape. Hopefully, this personal interview will give other women courage to leave their abusers despite whatever they believe is holding them back.

Many women are trapped in abusive relationships, and I trapped because in their minds they honestly don’t see a way out. Few women can overcome their abusers mind-control. The key is accepting that you do deserve more and believing that you were created for me.

All suffering serves a greater purpose, whether we understand it or not. Sometimes the suffering is self-inflicted and wrong-choices lead us to places we don’t want to be. However, seeking Truth and knowing Love will always bring you peace. As a society, I hope we can be more sensitive to the subject of abuse and understand the deeper effects it has on women’s mental well-being.

If you’re looking for ways to get involved there are women and children’s shelter in every city that are looking for devoted hearts! Be the change!
