3 All-Natural & Easy Ways to Exfoliate [With Results]
As I talked about in the “Eating By Blood Type” post, I recently suffered a severe breakout, so I’ve had to kick up my daily face regimen. I’ve been experimenting with more all-natural ingredients to find what works best for my skin. As you may or may not know, your skin has a 2-week cycle in which the top layer is renewed. The deeper layers work on a longer cycle (about 30 days), which is why it takes a while for acne under the surface to be healed.
It’s important to exfoliate to ensure your pores are not being clogged with the excess oil or trapped bacteria. Exfoliating regularly will give you the optimal complexion.
Here are three ways that I exfoliate my face at home that actually yielded noticeable results:
1. Create A Sauna Bowl
- Bring water to a boil on stovetop.
- Pour into a large bowl.
- Add either green tea or even natural extracts (I like Tea Tree oil and rosemary)
- Place a towel over your head and place your face directly into the steam from the bowl.
- Be sure that the towel is large enough to cover your head and the bowl. There should be limited air pockets.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar
I prefer to use ACV as a toner to exfoliate and I have seen a huge difference in the inflammation of my acne. Where before I had large bulbous pimples, the acne has flattened to smaller less aggressive bumps. I haven’t brought myself to drink it yet, but I’m sure if I added that to my regimen it would surely clear my skin up completely. I just don’t know if I can stomach it.
- Mix one part Apple Cider Vinegar with 3 parts water
- Store in a glass jar
3. Baking Soda
I’ve been using Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser made with soy extracts and it has worked the best for keeping my acne at bay, while giving me a vibrant complexion.
To make a gentle exfoliant I mix the baking soda with my cleanser and use it every night. So far I’ve been satisfied with the results.
Here are pictures of my process:
This is over a span of 2 months. Apart from changing my skincare routine I also experimented with diet changes as well. I don’t wear any make-up aside from mascara. I use Aveeno Daily Moisturizer everyday paired with a Neutrogena Sunscreen.
