Typical me, I wait until the week of my birthday to finalize birthday plans, but a beach road-trip was so necessary. I was missing the peace and calm of the ocean and the freedom it instantly covers you in. While I can agree traveling by plane is much more convenient, road trips are a little more relaxing and sometimes more cost-efficient. My favorite trips have been those driving through mountains or cruising during sunset with the music blasting and the windows down. Corny, I know, but if you’ve ever done it you know the feeling. When I’m driving long distances I’m always overwhelmed with a carefree-feeling and in the spirit of Lana Del Rey, I just want to keep drifting and see where the road takes me. Of course, I can’t just abandon real-life,
although I’ve attempted (lol), it feels good to just escape for a while.
So my road trip was set, but we had no idea where we were going. I set out on an Airbnb hunt along the Gulf coast and was drawn to two small sleepy beach towns, Mexico Beach and Port Saint Joe. We mutually chose this condo in Mexico Beach, because of it’s size and beachfront location. (And the host Bill, was aweeesommme! Beach chairs, floats, etc. too).
Omggg…I loved it. It wasn’t your typical 25 year-old turn up. 4 women, 2 guys and 2 babies. We literally only bought a bottle of rum out of principle. But it was the perfect chill vibes I was looking for.
Although most of us don’t get a paid summer off, we can still enjoy mini trips to cool beach towns.
Here’s a few scenic East Coast routes to take:
1. US 1
2. Blue Ridge Parkway
3. Kancamangus Scenic Byway
4. Acadia National Byway
